More tuition courses coming up

Ham House Gardens
I wanted to let you know about a couple more photography courses which I am running this year.

The first is about exploring historic places with your camera. As you may know from elsewhere on the website, I have a particular interest in photographing historical subjects, which have over recent years included topics as diverse as Battle of Britain airfields and Stockwell bus garage. I am currently running a photographic project as part of the commemorations of the centenary of the First World War - the Remembrance Image Project. Building on all of that, I am running a course at Denman, the college of the Women's Institute near Abingdon (and yes, gentlemen are welcome too!). It is a residential course running from 3-6 July; details and a link to online booking can be found on the Denman website.

The Ham House "Introduction to Digital Photography Course" in the spring of this year was very successful. Delegates comments included that it was a "brilliant day" and "a very inspiring day in a beautiful place". I shall therefore be running the course again in the autumn, on Friday 3 October. Booking will be available on the Ham House website soon, but if you would like further information or to register an interest, then please just contact me. Topics on the day will include:

• what is photography?
• principles of good exposure
• controlling depth of field in your images
• selecting the right shutter speed for best effect
• understanding ISO – how sensitive is your sensor
• taking photos indoors – specific considerations
• basic compositional techniques
• bringing it all together – how to get a good picture under pressure

As ever, please do let me know if you need further information.
